What is a Tax Calculator?
A tax calculator is an online tool that estimates your income tax liability based on your income, deductions, and applicable tax regime. It applies the latest tax slabs and rules to give you an accurate picture of how much tax you owe — without any complex manual calculations.
Our free tax calculator supports India (both Old and New Regime), the United States (2025 brackets), the United Kingdom (2024-25), Australia (2024-25), and Canada (2025). For other countries, you can use the "Other" option and enter a flat tax rate.
All calculations happen in your browser. Your financial data never leaves your device — there's no server processing, no logging, and no data storage. Close the tab and it's gone.
How to Use the Tax Calculator
- Select your country from the dropdown (India, US, UK, Australia, Canada, or Other).
- Enter your gross annual income — this is your total income before any deductions.
- Add any additional deductions you want to claim (80C, HRA, health insurance, etc.).
- Choose your tax regime (for India) or filing status (for US).
- Click Calculate Tax — the tool will instantly show your taxable income, total tax, and effective rate.
For India, the tool also compares Old vs New regime side by side, so you can see which one saves you more tax.
Understanding Tax Slabs and Brackets
Income tax is calculated using a progressive slab system. Your income is divided into brackets, and each bracket is taxed at a different rate. As your income increases, different portions of it are taxed at higher rates.
For example, in India's new regime (FY 2024-25):
| Income Slab | Tax Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to ₹3,00,000 | 0% (Nil) |
| ₹3,00,001 – ₹7,00,000 | 5% |
| ₹7,00,001 – ₹10,00,000 | 10% |
| ₹10,00,001 – ₹12,00,000 | 15% |
| ₹12,00,001 – ₹15,00,000 | 20% |
| Above ₹15,00,000 | 30% |
A 4% cess is added to the total tax. A rebate u/s 87A applies if taxable income is up to ₹7,00,000, making the effective tax zero.
India: Old vs New Tax Regime
India offers two tax regimes. The new regime has lower rates but fewer deductions. The old regime has higher rates but allows deductions like 80C (up to ₹1.5 lakh), HRA, home loan interest, and more.
| Feature | Old Regime | New Regime |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Deduction | ₹50,000 | ₹75,000 |
| 80C Deduction | Up to ₹1.5 lakh | Not allowed |
| HRA Exemption | Allowed | Not allowed |
| Home Loan Interest | Up to ₹2 lakh | Not allowed |
| Basic Exemption | ₹2.5 lakh | ₹3 lakh |
| Rebate Limit | ₹5 lakh (₹12,500) | ₹7 lakh (₹25,000) |
Use our comparison feature to see which regime saves you more tax based on your income and deductions.
Popular Tax Calculations
- Tax on ₹10,00,000 income: In the new regime, after ₹75,000 standard deduction, taxable income is ₹9,25,000. Tax = ₹42,500 + 4% cess = ₹44,200. Effective rate: 4.42%.
- Tax on ₹15,00,000 income: In the new regime, after ₹75,000 standard deduction, taxable income is ₹14,25,000. Tax = ₹1,12,500 + 4% cess = ₹1,17,000. Effective rate: 7.80%.
- Tax on ₹5,00,000 income: In the new regime, after ₹75,000 standard deduction, taxable income is ₹4,25,000. Tax = ₹6,250, but rebate u/s 87A makes it ₹0.
