Business Days Calculator
Count working days between two dates, add or subtract business days, and exclude weekends and custom holidays. Works for any country's workweek — including Friday–Saturday weekends and 6-day weeks. Free, private, and runs entirely in your browser.
What is a business day?
A business day (also called a working day) is a day when most businesses are open and operational. In most countries, that means Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and public holidays. But it's not the same everywhere — Gulf countries often observe a Friday–Saturday weekend, and some regions use a six-day workweek.
Business days matter because contracts, SLAs, payment terms, shipping estimates, and legal deadlines are almost always measured in working days rather than calendar days. A "30-day notice period" that runs on business days is actually six calendar weeks, not four — and misreading that distinction can turn a routine deadline into a missed one.
This calculator helps you get the count right, every time. It handles custom weekends, custom holiday lists, both inclusive and exclusive counting, and both directions — counting days between dates, or adding and subtracting working days from a start date.
How to use the business days calculator
- Choose a mode: Use "Count Between Dates" to find how many working days fall between two dates, or "Add / Subtract Days" to find a date that's N business days away from a starting point.
- Enter your dates: Pick a start date and an end date (or a start date and a number of business days).
- Set your weekend days: The default is Saturday and Sunday. Click the chips to customize — for example, select Friday and Saturday for Gulf countries.
- Add holidays (optional): Paste any public holidays or company closures, one date per line. They'll be subtracted from the count automatically.
- Click Calculate: You'll see the business days count, plus a full breakdown of calendar days, weekend days, holidays, and estimated work hours.
Why use this calculator?
Custom weekends for any country
Not everyone works Monday to Friday. Pick any combination of weekend days — Friday–Saturday, Sunday only, or a six-day workweek.
Holiday exclusion
Paste your public holidays or company closures, one per line. The calculator subtracts them automatically so your count is accurate.
Two modes in one
Count business days between two dates, or add and subtract working days from a start date. Both directions, one tool.
Work hours estimate
Alongside the day count, you get an estimated work-hours figure based on an 8-hour workday — useful for budgeting and planning.
100% private
Everything runs in your browser. No dates are sent to a server. Close the tab and the data is gone.
Works offline
Once the page loads, the calculator keeps working without an internet connection. Perfect for flights or remote areas.
Business days vs calendar days: the key difference
Most deadline confusion comes from one simple mistake: treating "days" and "business days" as the same thing. They're not.
Calendar days are every day on the calendar, including weekends and holidays. Business days are only the days when work actually happens — typically Monday through Friday, minus any public holidays.
| Deadline | Starting Monday | Starting Friday |
|---|---|---|
| 5 calendar days | Saturday | Wednesday |
| 5 business days | Monday (next week) | Friday (next week) |
| 10 business days | 2 full weeks later | 2 full weeks later |
| 30 business days | ~6 calendar weeks | ~6 calendar weeks |
The difference is dramatic. A "5-day delivery estimate" placed on a Friday can mean Wednesday if it's calendar days, or the following Friday if it's business days. For contracts, that distinction has real consequences.

Not every country treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. This calculator lets you customize your non-working days to match your local practice:

|---|---|---|
| United States, UK, most of Europe | Monday–Friday | Saturday, Sunday |
| Gulf countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar) | Sunday–Thursday | Friday, Saturday |
| Israel | Sunday–Thursday | Friday, Saturday |
| Some Middle Eastern countries | Saturday–Thursday | Friday only |
| South Asian countries (India, Pakistan) | Monday–Saturday (many businesses) | Sunday only |
| Nepal | Sunday–Friday | Saturday only |
By selecting the right weekend days, your count will match the actual working schedule for your location or your client's location.
