What does this Color Converter do?

This free online color converter translates a color between the five most common formats: HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, and CMYK. Pick a color using the native color picker, or type a HEX value, and every other format updates in real time. You can also edit any individual channel — for example, tweak the hue in HSL or the cyan in CMYK — and the rest of the formats recalculate instantly.

Everything runs locally in your browser. The colors you pick never leave your device, there's no signup, and there are no usage limits.

WCAG contrast and accessibility

Contrast ratio measures how readable text is against a background. It ranges from 1:1 (no contrast) to 21:1 (black on white). The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 defines two levels:

WCAG levelNormal textLarge text (18pt+ or 14pt bold)
AAat least 4.5:1at least 3:1
AAAat least 7:1at least 4.5:1

This tool shows the contrast ratio of your selected color against both white and black text, along with pass/fail badges for AA and AAA at normal and large text sizes.

Frequently asked questions

It converts a color between the five most common color formats: HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, and CMYK. Type or pick a color and every other format updates instantly. You can also edit any individual format to see the others update in real time.
RGB defines a color by its red, green, and blue channels (0–255). HSL describes it as Hue (0–360 degrees), Saturation (0–100%), and Lightness (0–100%). HSV describes it as Hue, Saturation, and Value (brightness). HSL and HSV are easier to reason about when adjusting a color, while RGB is what displays and screens use internally.
CMYK is used for print. It defines a color by Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key/Black ink percentages. For screens use HEX or RGB. For print, or when sending files to a professional printer, use CMYK.
The WCAG contrast ratio measures how readable text is against a background. It ranges from 1:1 (no contrast) to 21:1 (black on white). WCAG 2.2 recommends a ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text to meet AA level, and 7:1 / 4.5:1 for AAA level.
