How to rotate a PDF

  1. Select a PDF file. Drop a PDF onto the upload area, or click to browse your device. The tool loads the file and shows page thumbnails.
  2. Rotate the whole document or individual pages. Use the Rotate All Pages buttons for the entire document, tick the checkboxes on specific pages and use Rotate Selected Pages, or click the rotate-left / rotate-right buttons on any page card to change only that page. Rotations are cumulative and always normalised to 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°.
  3. Save and download the corrected PDF. Click Save Rotated PDF to apply the rotation metadata to the file, then click Download PDF to save your corrected document.

What does this PDF Rotate tool do?

This free online PDF rotator lets you rotate pages in a PDF file — entirely in your browser. Some PDFs come out sideways or upside down after scanning, exporting, or converting from other formats. Instead of recreating the document, you can rotate the affected pages by 90°, 180°, or 270° and download a corrected version.

The tool uses pdf-lib to read and write PDF rotation metadata, and PDF.js to render live page previews so you can see exactly what you're rotating. Each page's existing rotation is read first, then your new rotation is added on top — so you never accidentally overwrite a page that was already rotated.

Everything runs locally. Your PDF never leaves your device — there is no upload, no server processing, and no data storage. Close the tab and it's gone.

Why use this PDF Rotate tool?

100% private

Everything runs in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device — no upload, no server, no logs, no tracking.

Live page previews

See every page as a thumbnail and watch it rotate in real time as you change the orientation.

Per-page or all at once

Rotate the whole document, a specific range, or individual pages. Select multiple pages with checkboxes and rotate them together.

Three angles, cumulative

Rotate by 90° left, 180°, or 90° right. Rotations add up and normalise to 0°/90°/180°/270°, exactly as the PDF specification expects.

Works on mobile

Fully responsive. Rotate PDFs from a phone, tablet, or desktop — no app install required.

No watermark

Your rotated PDF is clean — no watermarks, no branding, no limitations. Use it for personal or commercial projects.

When would you need to rotate a PDF?

  • Scanned documents: Scanners often feed pages at an angle, or save them sideways. Rotate to fix orientation.
  • Photos in PDFs: Photos taken in portrait or landscape mode may end up rotated. Correct them before sharing.
  • Presentations and slides: Mixed orientations in a slide deck can be fixed with a per-page rotation.
  • Contracts and forms: Ensure all pages read the right way up before signing or archiving.
  • Books and manuals: Correct pages that were scanned or exported in the wrong orientation.
  • Print preparation: Rotate pages to landscape or portrait before printing to match paper orientation.

Frequently asked questions

Upload your PDF, rotate pages as needed, then click Save Rotated PDF. The rotation is written into the actual PDF page objects, so the corrected orientation stays after you download and reopen the file.

Yes. Use the Rotate All Pages buttons to rotate every page in the document by 90° left, 180°, or 90° right in one click.
No. Rotation is stored as a page-level value in the PDF, so text, images and vector graphics are preserved exactly as they were. Nothing is re-rendered or recompressed.
No. Everything runs in your browser using JavaScript, pdf-lib and PDF.js. Your PDF never leaves your device — there is no server processing, no logging and no data storage.
Yes. Rotations are cumulative: rotating a page twice by 90° clockwise results in 180°. The total rotation is always normalised to 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°, so you can keep adjusting until it looks right.
Encrypted PDFs cannot be rotated. The tool will show a clear error if it can't read the file. Remove the password first (for example with our PDF Unlock tool), then try again.
Yes. Once the page loads, the rotator works without an internet connection. All processing happens locally in your browser.
